Root code execution via unbounded sscanf conversion
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack overflow in H3C B5 Mini B5MiniV100R005 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code as root via a crafted request. EditMacList passes the attacker-controlled param value to sscanf with an unbounded %[^;] conversion, overflowing the smaller V19 stack buffer. The HTTP management interface must be reachable; the published request requires no authentication and can crash the service or yield a root shell.
