Remote code execution via unchecked URL opening
Published Jul 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper input validation in Obsidian 0.14.x and 0.15.x before 0.15.5 allows remote attackers to execute code via obsidian:// URIs. The hook-get-address handler passes attacker-controlled x-success values directly to window.open without validating the URI scheme, allowing file, SMB, or other protocol launches. Exploitation requires a victim to open a crafted web page and approve the Obsidian protocol prompt; successful execution can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
