CVE-2022-3643

Host networking interruption via split packet headers

Published Dec 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper packet handling in the Linux kernel netback driver allows guest OS users to interrupt host networking via crafted packets. Netback forwards packets whose protocol headers extend beyond the SKB linear area into the networking core, violating NIC driver assumptions. An unprivileged Xen guest with a paravirtualized interface can reset, abort, or crash the host physical NIC; data corruption and privilege escalation are not established.
