Third-party account takeover via OTP brute forcing
Published Mar 23, 2023 · Updated Feb 25, 2025
OTP brute forcing in the Password Sync Agent in Zoho ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus 6217 and earlier allows attackers to reset passwords. The agent accepts a short OTP through its API with a permissive throttling threshold, allowing sufficiently parallel guessing to find a valid code. Exploitation requires specialized high-capacity machines and an integrated third-party application; success grants control of that application account.
