Privilege escalation via unquoted service launch path
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unquoted search path handling in JustSystems JUST Online Update for J-License allows local users to execute code with service privileges. The Windows service launches another program from an unquoted executable path, allowing a malicious file placed in a searched path segment to run. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and permissive filesystem ACLs on a searched path, after which code runs with the service account privileges.
