Remote code execution via path traversal file write
Published May 18, 2023 · Updated Jan 22, 2025
Path traversal in Western Digital network-storage appliances and SanDisk ibi firmware allows remote attackers to write files outside restricted directories. Western Digital has not published the affected service or file-path parameter, or how pathname validation permits writes to critical filesystem locations. Exploitation requires a separate authentication bypass; affected Home-family and ibi firmware is before 9.4.0-191, and affected OS 5 firmware is before 5.26.202, permitting remote code execution through a strategically placed file.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
