Authenticated code execution via auto-extracted template archive
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in SiteServerCMS 5.x allows remote authenticated users to write a web shell through a crafted template download. The ajaxOtherService.aspx handler decrypts attacker-controlled downloadUrl input with the version 5 default SecretKey, then SiteTemplateDownload fetches and automatically extracts the archive. High-privilege access to the network endpoint is required; a crafted archive can place executable ASPX content beneath SiteFiles and enable server-side code execution.
