Process crash via undersized sample-entry cast
Published Aug 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in GPAC before 2.2.0 allows local users to crash MP4Box by making it inspect a crafted multimedia file. gf_isom_dovi_config_get casts an undersized generic visual sample-entry object to the larger MPEG visual type, then reads the absent dovi_config member past the allocation. Execution requires a user or workflow to pass the crafted file to MP4Box; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, not data disclosure or modification.
