Converter crash via null item-property pointer
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in Monostream tifig 0.2.2 allows local users to crash the converter by processing a crafted HEIF image. During HEIF item-property parsing, ItemPropertiesBox::getPropertyType passes a null Box pointer to Box::getType, which reads near address zero. A local user must cause tifig to process the crafted image; the demonstrated result is an abort of that conversion process, not code execution or data modification.
