Application crash via freed HEIF item metadata
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap use-after-free in Monostream tifig 0.2.2 allows context-dependent attackers to crash the converter via a crafted HEIF image. While parsing item information, ItemInfoEntry::parseBox allocates an object that ItemInfoEntry::~ItemInfoEntry frees and then reads again at iteminfobox.cpp:170. A user must invoke tifig on the malicious file; the published evidence demonstrates an AddressSanitizer abort, not code execution or data disclosure.
