Process crash via oversized SWF allocation
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Resource exhaustion in SWFMill 0.3.6 and earlier allows local users to crash the process by converting a crafted SWF file. During swf2xml conversion, SWF::UnknownOpCode::parse passes a file-derived size to operator new[] without rejecting an impossible allocation, causing AddressSanitizer to abort. Reaching the flaw requires the crafted file to be supplied to the command-line converter; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, not data access or code execution.
