Local code execution via Git option injection
Published Sep 7, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Argument injection in Poetry before 1.1.9 allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Git repository URL. The clone method in poetry/core/vcs/git.py passes the repository value to git clone without an option delimiter, so a leading dash is parsed as an executable-affecting Git option. Exploitation requires a victim to process an attacker-controlled project, and successful code runs with that user's access to credentials, source code, and reachable systems.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
