CVE-2022-36061Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Contract-state modification via persistent read-only writes

Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025

Improper VM state isolation in MultiversX mx-chain-go before 1.3.35 allows remote attackers to alter contract state through read-only calls. The VM permits a contract invoked in read-only mode to emit smart-contract results and persist changes to the callee instead of discarding those writes. An attacker must submit an interaction that reaches a state-changing callee through a read-only cross-contract call, enabling unintended ledger-state modification without reported service interruption.
