CVE-2022-36060Known exploitationNetwork attack vector

Client rendering disruption via crafted event strings

Published Mar 28, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025

Prototype pollution in Matrix.org matrix-react-sdk before 3.53.0 allows remote attackers to crash room or event tiles via crafted events. The SDK mishandles special strings in event fields, allowing Object prototype properties to be modified; the vendor has not disclosed the exact parsing locus or assignment. The attacker must share a Matrix room with the victim, and the resulting client-side service interruption can hide affected rooms or events while the rest of the application remains usable.
