CVE-2022-36057Network attack vector

Browser script execution via unescaped chat metadata

Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Stored XSS in Discourse Chat before 0.9 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser. Client-side chat dialogs mark translated strings containing stored channel titles and descriptions as HTML-safe without escaping those values. Administrator access is required to save the payload, and a victim must open an affected chat interface; execution can read or alter data available to that browser session.
