CVE-2022-36052Network attack vector

Out-of-bounds read when decompressing UDP header

Published Sep 1, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in Contiki-NG before 4.8 allows attackers to read beyond a packet buffer via crafted 6LoWPAN packets. In uipbuf.c, IPv6 extension-header processing casts a pointer at a computed offset without confirming that the remaining packet buffer can hold the complete UDP header. Reachability requires an affected device to accept attacker-supplied 6LoWPAN traffic; the over-read can expose memory beyond the received packet.
