IP address disclosure via remote-image proxy bypass
Published Aug 31, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Information disclosure in Zulip Server before 5.6 allows remote authenticated users to obtain viewers' IP addresses via crafted image URLs. The remote-image URL handler accepts a crafted URL as directly embeddable instead of rewriting it through the configured go-camo proxy. The sender must be able to post a message and a recipient must display it; previews must be enabled, exposing the recipient's IP address and browser fingerprinting data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
