CVE-2022-36038Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated code execution via unrestricted Oj.load deserialization

Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Insecure deserialization in CircuitVerse before commit 7b3023a allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via crafted JSON. The simulator update endpoint passes params[:data] into sanitize_data, where unrestricted Oj.load constructs attacker-selected Ruby objects. A valid session and an assignment-backed project are required; successful gadget-chain execution runs code in the server process.
