Incorrect event authorization via misnamed JSON field
Published Aug 19, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Incorrect authorization in Matrix.org gomatrixserverlib before commit 723fd49 allows remote authenticated users to submit or block room events. NewPowerLevelContentFromEvent unmarshals m.room.power_levels through a struct tagged event_default instead of events_default, so the configured value is ignored and replaced by zero. Exploitation requires a room whose events_default differs from zero; affected Dendrite servers can then accept unauthorized events or reject authorized ones.
