tiffcrop crash via undersized conversion buffers
Published Oct 21, 2022 · Updated May 7, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in LibTIFF 4.4.0 allows local users to crash the tiffcrop utility via a crafted TIFF file. The extractContigSamplesShifted32bits path writes packed sample bytes into image and crop buffers sized without the three padding bytes that this conversion requires. Exploitation requires a user or workflow to run tiffcrop with the crafted file and selected crop options; the demonstrated consequence is a process abort.
