Process crash via unchecked gradient tensor rank
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Reachable assertion in Google TensorFlow versions before 2.7.2 and versions 2.8.0 and 2.9.0 allows remote attackers to crash a hosting process. Conv2DBackpropInput passes an out_backprop tensor with an unchecked non-four-dimensional rank into shape computation, where a CHECK aborts execution. The affected operation must process a crafted tensor, and failure terminates the containing process rather than only rejecting the operation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
