Phishing via unprotected new-tab links
Published Aug 12, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Tabnabbing in BookWyrm before 0.4.5 allows remote attackers to redirect a user's original tab after a crafted link is opened. Search-result templates rendered match links with target="_blank" but omitted rel="noopener noreferrer", leaving the opener page accessible to the destination. Exploitation requires a user to open the affected link, after which the destination can replace the original tab with a phishing page.
