Process crash via unchecked UnbatchGrad tensor shapes
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Improper input validation in Google TensorFlow 2.7.1 and earlier, 2.8.0, and 2.9.0 allows attackers to crash the process. UnbatchGradOp treats id as a scalar and reshapes batch_index as three-column data without first validating either tensor's element count, so malformed shapes reach fatal CHECK assertions. Exploitation requires control of tensors passed to UnbatchGrad and interrupts only the hosting process; no data disclosure or modification is reported.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
