CVE-2022-35928

Local memory overwrite via oversized password prompt

Published Aug 3, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

A buffer overflow in AES Crypt for Linux 3.11 allows local users to overwrite memory via an oversized interactively entered password. The command-line prompt reads a password or confirmation into a fixed-size buffer without enforcing its maximum length. Only GitHub-built Linux source is affected, and the flaw is unreachable when -p supplies the password or -k supplies a key.
