Account compromise via unthrottled authentication requests
Published Aug 2, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Missing rate limiting in BookWyrm before 0.4.5 allows remote attackers to brute-force authentication endpoints over the network. The Nginx configuration proxies /login, /password-reset, and /resend-link without a limit_req rule or per-address request-rate zone. No account or user interaction is required to send repeated requests; successful password guessing grants only the compromised account's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
