CVE-2022-35921Network attack vector

Unauthorized private discussions via incorrect preference lookup

Published Aug 1, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Incorrect authorization in FriendsOfFlarum Byōbu before 1.1.7 allows remote authenticated users to start blocked private discussions. Discussion\Screener::hasBlockingUsers reads the blocksPd preference through getPreference instead of the persisted blocks_byobu_pd attribute, so the server fails to detect blocking recipients. A forum account with permission to start private discussions and recipient interaction are required; administrators with bypass permission are unaffected by the preference.
