Memory corruption via untrusted UPnP error logging
Published Oct 25, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Format string injection in Abode Systems iota All-In-One Security Kit 6.9X and 6.9Z allows remote attackers to corrupt memory via UPnP. The DoUpdateUPnPbyService handler copies errorCode and errorDescription XML values into a log buffer, then passes that buffer as the format argument to a variadic logger backed by vsnprintf. An attacker on the local network must answer the hub's UPnP discovery and AddPortMapping requests; exploitation can leak stack data to the physical UART, write memory, or interrupt the hub.
