SYSTEM code execution via insufficiently warned ZIP import
Published Jul 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Code execution in Inductive Automation Ignition 8.1.15 allows remote attackers to run Python scripts through a crafted ZIP file. Exchange Package Import accepts a project with embedded code and executes its scripts without sufficiently warning that imported content can run. Exploitation requires a privileged user with Gateway configuration access to import the attacker-supplied package, after which code runs as SYSTEM.
