Privileged code execution via Gateway Network deserialization
Published Jul 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Deserialization of untrusted data in Inductive Automation Ignition 8.1.15 allows remote authenticated users to execute SYSTEM-level code. The com.inductiveautomation.metro.impl component deserializes a crafted Gateway Network payload without properly validating its data. A trusted Gateway Network connection and effective code-execution privileges are required, although a separate authentication-bypass flaw can supply that access.
