CVE-2022-35868

Local privilege escalation via untrusted service search path

Published Feb 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 13, 2024

Untrusted search path handling in Siemens TIA Project-Server before 1.1 allows local users to escalate privileges through service startup. The service resolves required resources through its working directory without excluding untrusted files, allowing attacker-supplied content to take precedence. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and a legitimate user to start the service from the attacker-controlled path, resulting in elevated code execution.
