CVE-2022-35867

Guest-to-hypervisor code execution via e1000 overflow

Published Aug 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in xhyve 0.2.0-145-g83516a allows local users to execute arbitrary code in the hypervisor. The e1000 virtual device in src/pci_e82545.c copies guest-supplied data into a stack buffer without first validating its length. Exploitation requires high-privileged code execution in a guest configured with emulated Intel e1000 networking and escapes into the host-side hypervisor process.
