CVE-2022-3569Public exploit

Root command execution via passwordless Postfix sudo

Published Oct 17, 2022 · Updated May 13, 2025

Local privilege escalation in Synacor Zimbra Collaboration Suite 9.0.0 and earlier allows local users to execute commands as root via Postfix. A passwordless sudo rule lets the zimbra account invoke the bundled Postfix binary as root, and Postfix's debugging option executes an attacker-supplied script with that inherited privilege. Access to the zimbra service account is required, after which arbitrary commands run with unrestricted root authority.
