Remote device access via hidden preset credentials
Published Sep 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in Penta Security WAPPLES 4.0., 5.0.0., and 5.0.12.* allow remote authenticated users to access the appliance OS. The built-in non-privileged penta account authenticates with a version-specific preset password recoverable from a system script. Knowledge of that credential grants remote OS access as penta; obtaining root privileges requires a separate flaw.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
