Root access via hard-coded firmware credential
Published Aug 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in TOTOLINK A3002RU 3.0.0-B20220304.1804 allow remote attackers to obtain root access through a fixed password. The affected firmware image stores a recoverable password hash for the root account in /etc/shadow.sample. Exploitation requires a reachable service that accepts root authentication with that credential; the public analysis does not identify the accepting service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
