Authenticated message disclosure via missing room authorization
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025
Information disclosure in Rocket.Chat before 5.0 allows remote authenticated users to read messages from rooms they cannot access. The getUserMentionsByChannel Meteor server method queried mentions for a supplied room without first verifying that the caller could access that room. Any ordinary authenticated account could retrieve mentioned messages from private channels or direct-message rooms outside its membership.
