Memory corruption via attacker-controlled response format string
Published Oct 25, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Format string injection in Abode Systems iota All-In-One Security Kit 6.9X and 6.9Z allows remote attackers to corrupt memory via a crafted XCMD. The xcmd_get_var_ha handler places an attacker-controlled Home Assistant variable name into a response buffer, which xml_construct_response passes to xvsprintfcat as the format string. An unauthenticated UDP/55050 service exposes XCMD execution; format specifiers can disclose stack data or write memory, and an invalid write crashes hpgw.
