Service interruption via MQTT memory exhaustion
Published Aug 4, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Resource exhaustion in F5 BIG-IP 14.1.x, 15.1.x, and 16.1.x allows remote attackers to interrupt service via crafted MQTT traffic. The Traffic Management Microkernel consumes excessive resources while processing Message Routing Framework traffic, but F5 has not disclosed the request form or exact resource-lifecycle failure. Exposure requires an MQTT profile on a virtual server; successful unauthenticated traffic exhausts memory without reported data access or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=14.1.x <14.1.5
- Affected versionversion=15.1.x <15.1.6.1
