Arbitrary file read via encoded path traversal
Published Aug 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Path traversal in Vite before 2.9.13 allows remote attackers to read files outside the serving allowlist through a crafted URL. The @fs middleware applies decodeURI before its allowlist check, leaving percent-encoded slash characters hidden until later path handling resolves them as traversal sequences. A reachable Vite development server is required, and successful exploitation discloses files readable by the Vite process without granting write access.
