Command execution via unescaped GotoAnything result titles
Published Jul 25, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Joplin 2.8.8 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands through a shared note title. The GotoAnything dialog passes title-derived HTML to React's dangerouslySetInnerHTML without escaping the note title, allowing an event handler to invoke Node.js child_process execution. Exploitation requires a recipient to open the shared notebook and search for the malicious note; commands then run with the desktop user's privileges.
