Process crash via unchecked placement lookup
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in SWFTools commit 772e55a2 allows context-dependent attackers to crash swfrender via a crafted SWF file. In extractFrame, a move PlaceObject for a depth with no prior placement makes map16_get_id return null, after which the code dereferences the missing placement. A user must process the file with swfrender; the demonstrated result is a segmentation fault and process termination, not memory disclosure or code execution.
