Application crash via null-pointer read in DCTStream
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL-pointer dereference in SWFTools commit 772e55a2 allows local users to crash pdf2swf by processing a crafted PDF file. DCTStream::getChar() reads address zero while decoding embedded image data in the xpdf-based PDF parser, causing the process to abort. Exploitation requires a user to run pdf2swf on the malicious document; the demonstrated consequence is an availability-only application crash.
