Process crash via out-of-bounds DCTStream write
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
A heap-buffer overflow in SWFTools commit 772e55a2 allows local users to crash pdf2swf by processing a crafted PDF file. While decoding an embedded image, DCTStream::reset() writes eight bytes immediately beyond a heap allocation in lib/pdf/xpdf/Stream.cc. A local user must run pdf2swf on the crafted file; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort, not code execution.
