Process crash via invalid bounding-box pointer dereference
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in SWFTools commit 772e55a2 allows attackers to crash pdf2swf by supplying a crafted PDF document. During PDF-to-SWF conversion, gfxline_getbbox in lib/gfxtools.c dereferences an invalid high-address pointer while calculating a text clipping path's bounding box. Exploitation requires a user or automated workflow to process the file with pdf2swf; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, not code execution or data disclosure.
