Denial of service via global buffer overflow
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 23, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in SWFTools allows local users to cause a service interrupt via crafted PDF input processed by pdf2swf. The DCTStream::transformDataUnit function in /xpdf/Stream.cc writes beyond a global buffer while transforming attacker-controlled JPEG data. Exploitation requires a local user to provide the crafted document for processing, and the reported consequence is an availability loss rather than data disclosure or integrity modification.
