Application crash via out-of-bounds DecodePNG copy
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in PNGDec 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 allows remote attackers to crash applications via a crafted PNG image. DecodePNG invokes memcpy at png.inl line 801 and writes 132 bytes beyond the allocated output buffer when processing the published crash sample. Processing the image requires user interaction, and the demonstrated consequence is an application abort rather than data disclosure or modification.
