Service interruption via nil authentication option dereference
Published Aug 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in PingCAP TiDB 6.1.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt database service through a crafted GRANT statement. GrantExec.Next reads AuthPlugin from a nil user.AuthOpt while processing a privilege grant to a nonexistent user with no password option, causing a panic. The trigger requires access to the SQL endpoint and the ability to submit the GRANT command; the published impact is limited to availability.
