Host code execution via symlink-resolved container mounts
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper link resolution in MikroTik RouterOS 7.4beta4 container mounts allows attackers to execute host code via crafted mount paths. The mount handler resolves container-controlled symlinks for both source and destination against the host root, allowing a file-backed symlink to replace a host executable. Reachability requires the optional Container package and a physically enabled container feature; malicious container mounts can then be configured remotely.
