Cross-site scripting via unescaped account username

Cross-site scripting in MediaWiki before 1.35.7, 1.36.0 through 1.37.2, and 1.38.0 allows remote attackers to run JavaScript. SpecialCreateAccount::successfulAction() passes a welcome message containing the username to showSuccessPage(), and OutputPage::setPageTitle() renders it with text() without escaping the username. Account creation must be enabled, the username policy must permit a JavaScript payload, and a user must view the resulting page; script execution can read or alter data in that user’s browser session.
