CVE-2022-3491

Process crash via invalid redirection register

Published Dec 3, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in Vim before 9.0.0742 allows local users to crash the editor by compiling a crafted Vim9 function. The Vim9 compile_lhs path advances past an @ destination without first rejecting an invalid register, allowing compilation to return a pointer beyond the line buffer. Triggering requires a locally supplied Vim9 script with malformed redirection in a compiled function, and the documented consequence is limited to editor availability.
