CVE-2022-34892

Root code execution via updater race condition

Published Jul 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

A race condition in the updater in Parallels Desktop 17.1.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as root. The update mechanism performs operations on a shared object without proper locking, allowing concurrent activity to substitute or alter the object during the privileged operation. Exploitation requires existing low-privileged code execution on the Mac host and results in complete root-level control of the process context.
